Senior drivers will want to take many things into account to stay safe while driving. Consider the ten following tips. 1. Make sure that you can see well enough to drive As you get older your eyesight will sometimes decline. If you find that you are having trouble seeing then you can consider getting your prescription updated. If you are having difficulty seeing at a certain time no matter what you do such as at night, then limit your driving to the day. 2. Do not let others goad you into speeding It seems as if everyone is in a rush these days on the road. Someone may be honking behind you even if you are already going up to the speed limit. Do not let their honking compel you to go at unsafe speeds. 3. Take the time you need If you do not feel comfortable making a turn into traffic then do not rush because of a honking car. Of course if this is always happening to you, then you might want to consider taking a driving course or working on your driving. 4. Do not let road rage affect you If a more aggressive driver gets mad at you and tries to speed or makes an obscene gesture then do not let them engage you. Instead try to avoid them. 5. Drive defensively You want to do what you can to avoid accidents. If someone really wants to get ahead of you, then let them. 6. Follow the rules of the road In general slower traffic goes to the right. You may find other motorists constantly passing you to the right, and if so you might want to try to move over. 7. Pay attention to the minimum limits on the road Just as it is dangerous to go too fast on a road, it can be dangerous to go too slow. You do not want people racing up besides you. On certain roads like highways there are posted minimum speeds. 8.Know where you are going before you leave You do not want to be fumbling with your map when you should be looking at the road. You should have a good idea of where you are going. If you get lost then find a safe place to stop. 9. Avoid distractions As you get older you may find that you need to play closer attention to the road. You certainly do not want distractions like a cell phone to compete for your attention too. 10. Know when to stop Some seniors do find that a time comes when they are less comfortable driving. They may be getting in a lot of accidents or feeling uncomfortable while driving. If you find this happening to you then explore other options. You want to be as safe as possible while driving. The above tips may aid senior drivers.
